Appreciating Life’s Free Gifts

Grateful for the beauty of the Canadian Rockies
Grateful for the beauty of the Canadian Rockies

“When we are grateful, we appreciate life’s free gifts: friendship and solitude; movement and rest; Nature’s bounty and her spare winter introversion; our own alternating sonata movements of joy, sorrow, and joy’s resurgence. Through this appreciation, we find contentment.”  Unknown

I recently spent some time in Banff, in the Canadian Rockies.  I had the opportunity to summit Sulphur Mountain (my first summit!). The beauty and majesty of standing on that mountaintop literally brought tears to my eyes.  What a miraculous place!

Dale shared his thoughts on the beauty of nature.  “I do find wonder and awe in nature. The other night I had my telescope on the moon and I could see the craters and mountains. It’s hard to believe that we had men walking up there! I am grateful we have air and fresh water. It’s amazing that of all the planets in our solar system, Earth is the only one that can support our humanity.  We should be grateful for our uniqueness.”

You don’t need to have huge manifestations happen in your life in order to express sincere appreciation.  Take a moment today to appreciate the world around you – the flora, the fauna, the fresh air.  You’ll be amazed by the bounty that surrounds all of us.  What’s your favorite part of nature?  Write it down and capture the moment.

Have fun,

Lisa
