Brilliant Opportunities Disguised as Impossible Situations

Who in their right mind would have ever thought that the taxi cab industry could be replaced by a phone? Well, on a snowy Paris evening in 2008, two guys – Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp had trouble hailing a cab. They had an idea – “What if we could tap a button and get a ride?”

That’s all it took for Uber to be born. One great opportunity out of an impossible situation, and I am forever grateful.

When I travel, I have a couple of choices. I can have my hubby drop me off, park my car at the off-site parking lot, schedule a cab, or tap my Uber app. On the list of four, my favorite is when Scott drops me off – after all, you really can’t kiss a cab or Uber driver goodbye. My least favorite is the cab. If it’s a choice between Uber and a cab in any city at any time, Uber will win every time. Why? Because it’s nice to get into a clean car with a person who is actually engaged and enjoys what they do for a living. I’ve met some great people and have befriended a few of my Uber drivers. Very cool.

How many times have you encountered a problem, thought of a terrific idea to solve it, and then did nothing about it? The killer part is when you later see that same “invention” created by someone else. I know, I know – it shoulda, woulda, coulda been you. Keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities; the next Uber is waiting to be born!

PS – Don’t let an “impossible situation” hold you back. Take action and bring your brilliant ideas to life.
