Grategy – Lisa Ryan Speaks

If you love life, don’t waste time

Lisa Ryan email -aholic“If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made of.”  Bruce Lee

“Hi, my name is Lisa Ryan and I am an email-aholic.”  “Hi, Lisa.”  Did you ever sit down at the computer for “five minutes” to take care of your emails and find yourself still dealing with them FOUR HOURS LATER?  Email, if not handled correctly, eats away a good portion of your day and is a HUGE time-waster.

On a recent trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake, I “disconnected” for the weekend.  Being in Canada (and not wanting to pay international roaming charges), I turned my cell phone and my IPad off.  I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to not be available to the world 24/7.  My time and my energy were fully focused on my husband, and we had a wonderful time on our getaway.  (And, believe it or not, I didn’t miss ANYTHING by not answering my phone or email while away).

When I related that story to my friend Traci, she shared that her and her husband disconnect on a regular basis.  I thought, “You mean I don’t have to go to Canada to experience the pure pleasure of personal connection instead of a life-interrupting internet connection?  What a concept!”  My husband and I are going to implement this simple idea and “get-away” more often.

Yes, email is an important communication tool (I’m glad you’re reading this one!)  However, take the time to smell the roses, to personally interact with others, and to fully enjoy your life while you are still on the planet.  After all, no one has ever said on their deathbed, “I wish I would have spent more time checking email.”

Have fun,

Lisa

For starters, pick one day – disconnect from technology, and spend quality time with someone you love.  I’d love to hear your results.
