Top Three Employee Engagement and Gratitude Articles for the week of April 24, 2015

Because there are so many great articles on employee engagement and creating a culture of appreciation in the workplace, I want to share the best of these resources with you. Here are my favorites from this week. I have included some of my thoughts on these gratitude strategies (“Grategies”) and would like to hear your comments too.

Why employee communications, engagement fail as companies grow by Keith Kitani

(Employee Benefit News) “When you have 20 employees, it’s relatively easy to get everyone into a room and say what you need to say. But once you have more people on board, juggling different schedules and even remote locations and job functions, trying to reach everyone at the right time with the right message becomes futile.”

My Thoughts:  With four generations in the workplace, a one-size fits all approach definitely does not work anymore. Figure out how to communicate in a way that resonates with the INDIVIDUALS in your organization. Yes, you may have to share news more often and in different ways now.

Four Signs It’s Time to Get With the Customer Experience Program by George Jacob

(Business 2 Community) “In independent research, we’ve found that customer-centric culture can positively affect employee engagement. They want to help your customers, create positive experiences, and feel a sense of purpose in their roles. The only thing worse than denying them those things is to offer empty promises on top of that denial.”

My Thoughts:  The article makes some very good points – and the pictures are awesome.

How to Appreciate Your Employees By Olga Kolodynska

(ChatLive Blog) “We usually use phrases like „Good job!” The thing is, generic praise is not enough. You should be more specific. Tell employees how exactly they did a good job. They can learn from it and do more of it next time. You can say: “I really like the way you walked a customer through this problem. Your patience is exactly what he needed.”

My thoughts:  It’s true – what gets recognized gets repeated. This article has several great tips showing how important it is to show your appreciation at work.
