Grategy – Lisa Ryan Speaks

Top Three Employee Engagement and Gratitude Articles for the week of January 9, 2015

Because there are so many great articles on employee engagement and creating a culture of appreciation in the workplace, I want to share the best of these resources with you. Here are my favorites from this week. I have included some of my thoughts on these gratitude strategies (“Grategies”) and would like to hear your comments too.

How Employee Engagement Can Improve a Hospital’s Health by Jeff Burger and Luke Sutton

(Business Journal) “Research by Gallup and Loma Linda University Medical Center shows that employee engagement and employee safety work together to enhance patient safety. When healthcare employees work in a safe environment and are engaged, the chances are much greater that they will perform activities that are known drivers of patient safety outcomes better.”

My Thoughts:  Patient satisfaction scores now play a big part in a hospital’s bottom line. Why not take care of your staff in the same way you want them to take care of your patients?  It makes sense.

How Gratitude Can Help You Through Hard Times by Robert Emmons

(Greater Good) “In the face of demoralization, gratitude has the power to energize. In the face of brokenness, gratitude has the power to heal. In the face of despair, gratitude has the power to bring hope. In other words, gratitude can help us cope with hard times.”

My Thoughts:  Dr. Emmons has been my go-to guy on gratitude since I began researching it in 2009. My own practice has gotten me through some pretty rough times, and it can help you too.

The Benefits of Bringing More Play into Your Work By Makenna Johnston

(Tiny Buddha) “Too often we allow ourselves to be swept up into the stuff of adulthood, and forget that adulthood doesn’t have to equate to boring. And sometimes, adding a bit of play catalyzes work into a space of joy, fulfillment, and creation. Just what your job wants from you.”

My thoughts:  That’s one of the best things about having my own business – my boss lets me play! (Unlike a previous boss who didn’t like me signing my emails with “Have fun.”  Egads!
