Grategy – Lisa Ryan Speaks

Top Three Employee Engagement and Gratitude Articles for the week of September 25, 2015

Here are my favorite articles for the week on employee engagement and creating a culture of appreciation. Feel free to share your comments.

How online training increases employee engagement by Roz Bahrami

(ITBusiness.ca) “Employees feel they are worth something to you when you make investments in them. Online learning is a good platform which to build their renewed engagement.”

My Thoughts: Investing in your employees – and giving them the time to take the training – helps your team feel important to the organization. Of course, managers also need to model the behavior of personal and professional development for themselves.

4 ways to unlock employee performance by Sabine Vollmer

(CGMA.org) “Companies that focus on effective employee collaboration and reward company-wide accomplishments increase their revenue by about $16,400 and their profits by about $2,500 per employee annually, according to a study by consultancy CEB.”

My Thoughts:  Employee engagement is NOT a soft skill. There are hard numbers that show its impact to the bottom line. Engagement matters!

How To Combat Organizational Complacency by Victoria Vessella

(Business2Community) “Dennis Goin (Executive Vice President for Engagements at Kotter International) points out that humans are constantly seeking an outlet for mental urgency that gives us a sense of purpose. Employees need to be given clear direction and feel passionate about the mission of their organization in order to feel a sense of true urgency. Additionally, if management stifles innovation and insists that employees perform their job in the same repeated manner, they will become complacent and lack urgency. Organizational leaders should be on alert for complacency in managers and employees, as it can affect turnover rates and the bottom line.”

My thoughts:  We all want to be better tomorrow than we are today. By giving your team opportunities to grow and expand their breadth of knowledge, you may find hidden treasures you had no idea you already had working for you.
