Grategy – Lisa Ryan Speaks

Ultimately You Can Only Fix Yourself

Lisa Ryan chief appreciation strategist at grategy lots_to_feel_good_about_by_ummlovetheworld-d3hqmvj“Everybody talks about wanting to change things and help and fix, but ultimately all you can do is fix yourself. And that’s a lot. Because if you can fix yourself, it has a ripple effect.” Rob Reiner

Whenever I’m presenting a gratitude program and teaching people how to create a culture of appreciation in the workplace, someone inevitably comes up to me after the program and says, “Wow, I wish my boss would come and hear you.” And that person is right – a culture change does start at the top.  However, there will always be bosses, owners, and supervisors who don’t get it. “Why should I thank people for doing their job? Isn’t that what the money is for?” is a typical response from the biggest offenders.

No matter what is going on in the rest of your organization, you have a choice.  You can choose to look for the good every day.  What do you like about your job? About your company? About your boss?  Find one good thing. What do you enjoy doing during the day – when you get into the flow – and how can you do more of that?  Be creative, explore the possibilities.

Yes, it would be awesome if we could will others to treat us the way we want to be treated.  But we can’t. We can treat others the way that they want to be treated, look for the good in every situation and make a concerted, consistent effort to get to gratitude every day. In doing that – you will change your world.

Have fun,

Lisa
