Grategy – Lisa Ryan Speaks

You Need Very Little to Make a Happy Life

Lisa Ryan Grategy technology“Remember this, that very little is needed to make a happy life.” Marcus Aurelius

For my 50th birthday and our 18th wedding anniversary, Scott planned a secret long weekend getaway.  He didn’t give me any details as to where we were going, just that it would take about three hours to get there.

I figured that this would be the perfect amount of time to catch up on some writing, and I fully intended to bring my laptop with me. However, after seeing the look at Scott’s face when I told him of my plans, I decided that as my gift to him, I would actually leave my beloved laptop at home (a very difficult decision).

When we arrived at Glen Laurel Scottish Bed & Breakfast in Hocking Hills, Ohio, we discovered that not only did we not have a television in our room, we couldn’t get cell phone coverage if we wanted it.  We were officially “off the grid.”

I have to say, the weekend was complete and utter heaven.  Now, it probably helped that I had no choice in the matter, but not having access to technology was lovely all the same.  We hiked, we ate, we read, we talked, and we shared an incredibly romantic weekend together.  It was exactly what we needed and it was definitely the BEST birthday/anniversary weekend ever!

When was the last time you consciously went “off the grid?”  Whether you go out of the country, to a remote location, or simply decide to leave the technology at home, you will be so glad you did!

Have fun,

Lisa

PS – The amazing thing was that my business didn’t crash, no one was mad, and nothing bad happened when I turned OFF the technology.
